Scientists from Australia concluded that women with a stroke more often than men have atypical symptoms, which complicates timely diagnosis and assistance.
“Stroke in women is often not recognized due to atypical symptoms, which is related erroneous diagnoses and prone to severe consequences”, – said representatives of the George Institute for Global Health.
This conclusion is supported by the data of the analysis of 21 research projects with the participation of more than 36,000 people aged from 58 to 79 years. The scientists found that women who were overtaken by a stroke were more likely than men to be given a “non-stroke” diagnosis. This is mostly due to the fact that the clinical picture of a stroke in women often differs from its typical “classical” symptoms.
In particular, female strokes are characterized by the following symptoms.
- Confusion of consciousness .
- Fatigue and weakness.
- Fainting.
- Changes in mental quality: panic, anxiety.
