Scientists: Yogurt protects against heart disease

Yogurt is a versatile product that can be used in its pure form or supplemented with fruits and berries. A large study published in the American Journal of Hypertension showed that this is not the only reason to include it in your diet.

Scientists have found that eating two or more servings of yogurt per week is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Researchers from Boston University and Harvard Medical School studied the records of more than 55,000 women with high blood pressure aged 30 to 55 and 18,000 men aged 40 to 55. Each participant kept a food diary and reported any medical diagnoses.

The study found that men who ate two or more servings of yogurt a week had a 19% lower risk of heart attack. Women had an even greater reduction of 30%. The risk of developing coronary heart disease was reduced by 20%, regardless of gender.
