Secrets of longevity: 7 habits against stroke

More than 15 million strokes are registered annually in the world. In order not to fall into these statistics, it is necessary to adjust the lifestyle.

Specialists of the University of Texas (USA) established during the study that a change in lifestyle can partially compensate for the genetic risk of stroke. This requires seven healthy habits:

  • healthy diet;
  • physical activity;
  • refusal to smoke;
  • saving from overweight;
  • normalization of blood pressure;
  • blood sugar control;
  • cholesterol control.

To confirm this hypothesis, scientists involved more than 11,500 American adults aged 45 to 64. Based on the results of the analyses, the genetically determined stroke risk was calculated for each volunteer. All participants in the experiment were then asked to follow seven healthy habits.

28 years of observation showed that volunteers with the highest genetic risk and weak hearts had a stroke risk of about 25%. For those who followed the seven healthy habits, the indicator decreased by a third. Those who did not try to adhere to the suggested habits experienced a stroke 57% more often.
