Seven telltale signs that your houseplant has been overwatered

Quite often among flower growers there are two problems. Some overwater the plants, while others overdry them. Of course, this makes everyone feel bad. Today we will talk about the first category of problems. How to understand that houseplants are overwatered.

Signs of excessive moisture

You looked at the soil in the pot, touched it with your finger, it seemed that it needed to be watered. This is the procedure in most cases. In fact, the top layer of soil may be dry, but the bottom is moist and even wet. If you regularly water the plant, then purchase a measuring device to check the moisture content of the substrate. This will be more reliable.

You can understand that the plant is overwatered by a number of external signs. These include the following:

  • dropping of any leaves (old, new, yellow, green);
  • leaves lose density and become soft;
  • appearance of brown spots;
  • the top of the plant began to wilt;
  • the base of the stem became brown;
  • mold and fungus on the surface of the soil;
  • breeding of mycelium of midges (midges).

Each plant is individual in the manifestation of symptoms, but in general they are as in the list. If it's not too late, try to save the plant and adjust the watering schedule according to the season, temperature, and humidity.
