Deputy Police Chief Ben Hushin said that in his 31-year career, nothing like this had ever happened before.
A hospice patient who was thought to be dead suddenly came to life at a funeral home in Nebraska (USA). Funeral home workers accidentally noticed that the woman was breathing. This was reported by ABC News, citing law enforcement officials.
A 74-year-old American woman, Constance Glantz, who lived in a nursing home, was pronounced dead on the morning of Monday, June 3. After that, the pensioner's body was transported to the funeral home Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home to prepare for a farewell ceremony.
While the service workers were doing their job, they accidentally noticed that the woman was breathing. They provided her with first aid and reported the incident to the police.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, the patient was taken to a nearby hospital, where they are trying to save her life. The woman is currently alive.
“This is a very unusual case. I have been working in this profession for 31 years, and nothing like this has happened before. We have not been able to detect any criminal intent on the part of the nursing home staff, but the investigation is ongoing,” said Ben Hushin, deputy chief of the Lancaster County police.
The hospice staff will probably not be held accountable, since Glantz's stay within the walls of the institution meant that her death was expected.
By the way, this is not the first such story. In Ecuador, a 76-year-old woman who was declared dead in the hospital came to life during her own funeral. Eyewitnesses say that the “deceased” began knocking from inside the coffin. Seven days later, she died of an ischemic stroke. Doctors said the patient was under “constant observation,” but gave no further details about the case.
