Signs of superstition: Why you should not give mirrors and keep other people's mirrors at home
0
Ancestors believed that mirrors have powerful energy and followed a number of strict rules.
Even pocket mirrors can store the energy of their owners and, accordingly, influence on people's lives. One of the most common folk beliefs warns against keeping someone else's mirror at home, as it is believed to bring adverse consequences in the form of illnesses and problems.
Esoteric practitioners also do not recommend giving or receiving mirrors. An ancient belief holds that a mirror given to a person can metaphorically steal their innate beauty.
If someone receives a mirror as a gift, ritual procedure dictates that it be kept in darkness for three days before being hung up on the wall or bring out into the light. This ritual is designed to help purify and protect the recipient from any unfriendly influences.
