Signs that you are lacking vitamin C

To have a strong immune system, you must get essential vitamins from food. Vitamin deficiencies can occur for various reasons. For example, this can happen if you do not have a balanced diet and do not eat fruits, vegetables, meat, or fish. Another reason is problems with vitamin absorption: this can happen with Crohn's disease.

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that the human body needs. As Lindsey Tallis, a health expert at Mighty Health, notes, the daily requirement for vitamin C can vary depending on gender and age. For example, for adult men it is 90 mg per day, and for women – 75 mg per day.

What is so dangerous about vitamin C deficiency? Nima Majlesi, MD, director of the Department of Medical Toxicology at Staten Island University Hospital, emphasizes that this vitamin helps to avoid scurvy. This disease causes easy bleeding and bruising, poor wound healing, etc.

The greatest risk of encountering scurvy is in the elderly, those who suffer from alcoholism, as well as those who have a poor diet and do not receive vitamin C.

As for the signs of vitamin C deficiency, they are all the same. Anemia (i.e. iron deficiency); swollen joints that also hurt; decreased immunity. Also, vitamin C deficiency can cause scurvy. Its symptoms include feeling unwell, fatigue; anemia; slow healing of skin wounds; bleeding or swollen gums, tooth loss; spots on the skin due to bleeding and bruising.
