Simple tips to get rid of a hangover quickly

The good news is that you don't have to overexert yourself at the gym to cure a hangover.

A doctor shared her sage advice on how to get rid of a hangover so you can enjoy your day to the fullest.

You're not wrong if you think that your hangover only gets worse as you age. The body's ability to process alcohol can deteriorate with age. Worsening hangovers are linked to a decrease in the levels of an important protein called alcohol dehydrogenase, which helps break down alcohol.

Additionally, many people drink less and less regularly as they get older, so when they do have a big night of drinking, they have a much harder time coping.

Replenish electrolytes and drink water

The headaches and nausea that often accompany hangovers can be caused by dehydration. Alcohol increases your need to urinate, causing you to lose more fluids. Your doctor has a simple solution for these ailments: drink water.

But he has a lesser-known tip. He recommends eating foods high in potassium. Many hangover symptoms are related not only to a lack of water in the body, but also to low electrolyte levels.

“It’s widely known that drinking alcohol blocks the production of a hormone that helps your body retain water, which leads to dehydration and the loss of electrolytes like potassium and sodium. Eating foods high in potassium the next day, such as bananas, oranges, apricots, grapefruit and cantaloupe, leafy greens, spinach, broccoli, potatoes, mushrooms, and peas, will help reduce hangovers and replenish electrolytes, helping you recover faster.”

In addition to potassium-rich foods, eating foods rich in vitamin C can also help.

Having a healthy dose of vitamin C in your system before and after drinking alcohol can help prevent or reduce the severity of a hangover, so consider including some vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, green and red peppers, or drinking some fresh orange or tomato juice before the party and the next day.
