Six dangerous signs of atherosclerosis: how to avoid stroke and heart attack

Excess of “bad “cholesterol blocks the passage of blood through vessels. As a result, oxygen and nutrients in the blood cannot reach the heart, which leads to a heart attack.

If blood flow to the brain stops, a stroke occurs. But before this happens, there are usually signs of atherosclerosis. This is a chronic disease affecting vital arteries. With it, there is a gradual deposition of cholesterol in the vessel wall, as a result of which a plaque appears. It narrows the lumen of the vessel and leads to a decrease in blood flow.

The signs of atherosclerosis are a kind of warning that you should pay attention to and take care of your health. Specialists from the British organization British Heart Foundation identify six dangerous “warning signs”:

  • chest pain;
  • pain in any of the limbs, where there may be an artery blockage;< /li>
  • difficulty breathing;
  • fatigue;
  • confusion of consciousness arising from the fact that blood does not flow to the brain;
  • weakness in m

Experts remind that bad habits (smoking, lack of physical activity, excess weight and a large amount of fat in the diet) increase the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood. According to Express, there are no treatments that can stop or reverse atherosclerosis. But medication and lifestyle changes can slow its progression and reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.
