Skin tags or sores in the nose could be a sign of “something dangerous”

Skin that has appeared in the nasal cavity can indicate an underlying health problem, sometimes serious and dangerous, said British doctor Samit Unadkat.

London consultant otolaryngologist Dr. Unadkat told The Sun in an interview that the delicate and sensitive skin in the nose can be negatively affected by various factors: for example, weather changes, allergies or viruses, physical stress, health problems. If this skin becomes irritated or damaged, crusts or sores can appear, and sometimes this indicates something very dangerous.

Polyps. According to Dr. Unadkat, the formation of crusts is associated with polyps – painless soft growths inside the nose. As a rule, they do not pose a major threat, but they can contribute to difficulty breathing and loss of smell. In addition, polyps can grow, and if left untreated, they can block the nose.

Inflammatory conditions. Also, the doctor said, crusts in the nose can be an early symptom of inflammatory diseases – such as granulomatosis, which affects the blood vessels, and sarcoidosis, which affects the lungs. Perforations that occur in the nose can become crusted due to turbulent air flow, the expert said.

Nasal cancer. Cancer of the nose and paranasal sinuses is accompanied by symptoms such as tearing, toothache, facial pain or numbness, unilateral hearing loss, and the crusts that occur in the nose may be stained with blood.
