Smoking turned out to be even more dangerous for the heart

A bad habit causes even more damage to the heart than expected earlier. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the University of Copenhagen.

For decades, researchers have known that smoking causes clogging of arteries, which is a direct path to heart attacks and strokes. A study involving almost 4,000 people showed that cigarettes make the hearts denser and weaker, which makes it harder for them to pump blood around the body. And the more a person smokes, the weaker his heart works.

However, observations have also shown that after quitting smoking, the heart can, as they say, come to its senses. Therefore, it is never too late to quit smoking, as Danish cardiologists emphasize. They proved that smoking not only endangers blood vessels, but also the whole heart.

Dozens of studies have shown that smoking is associated with heart failure. Nicotine dangerously increases heart rate and blood pressure. When cigarettes are burned, various poisonous substances are released, including carbon monoxide, which replaces oxygen in the blood, thereby reducing its availability to the heart.
