You may not have thought about it, but the color of your snot can tell you and your doctor a lot about what is going on in your body.
You can see the colors in the English-language chart below.
1. Transparent.
It is normal if there is not much discharge. Then this may indicate allergies or a cold, writes Science Alert.
2. White.
Can be caused by a nasal infection, allergies, or dehydration.
3. Yellow.
This color is due to dead blood cells. In this case, you don’t need to go to the doctor, but you may feel sick.
4. Green.
Your immune system is working at its limit. There are a lot of dead cells and other particles in your snot. If this color persists for more than 12 days, you should see a doctor, as it may indicate sinusitis.
5. Pink/red.
The mucous membrane may be damaged, irritated, and dry. This means there is blood in your snot.
6. Brown.
This color comes from dried blood. If you also cough up the same mucus, it could be bronchitis. Also, your snot might be a strange color if you've been breathing in something dirty.
7. Black.
This could be a sign of a fungal infection. Unless it's from smoking or taking drugs, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
