Some doctor's advice on how to improve the condition of the intestinal microflora

A healthy state of the intestinal microflora contributes to the protection from obesity, allergies, diabetes and perhaps even from mental retardation, says a doctor from Germany, Professor Michaela Axt-Hadermann.

In an interview, the doctor gave several tips on how to improve the condition of the intestinal tract microflora. First of all, the professor recommended eating as varied as possible. The more diverse we cook and eat, the more diverse the intestinal flora becomes, says the expert.

Eat products with prebiotics.Inulin, oligofructose, and galactooligosaccharides are prebiotics naturally found in food. Representing hard-to-digest fibers, they contribute to the development of intestinal flora. The doctor's advice: to replenish prebiotics, you need to include oatmeal, leeks, legumes, coffee, green tea in your diet.

Do not get carried away with low-carb diets. Many carbohydrate foods are ruthlessly eliminated from the diet, however, carbohydrate fiber is a favorite food of beneficial gut bacteria. For this reason, it is useful to eat a healthy amount of grains, including rice, and cold potatoes.

Meat and dairy products in moderation. If the diet is characterized by a large amount of protein and a low amount of carbohydrates, such a one-sided form of nutrition can negatively affect the state of the intestinal microflora. Meat and dairy products may well be part of the diet, but they should be consumed only in moderate quantities, the doctor gave another piece of advice.

Don't be afraid of dirt in everyday life. The more hygienic the environment, the more often allergies or asthma occur. Intestinal bacteria are only happy with a small amount of dirt, the professor claims. Microbes penetrating the body settle in the intestines and “train” them, which strengthens the immune system.

Be careful with antibiotics. These drugs do not distinguish between useful and dangerous intestinal bacteria, they equally effectively destroy and those, and others.

“Use antibiotics only in case of extreme necessity. After antibacterial therapy, it takes from three months to a year to restore the intestinal flora,” Akst-Gadermann warned.

Avoid artificial sweeteners. Although they have fewer calories, they lead to a violation of the intestinal flora. flora, which, in turn, can cause diabetes, disrupt sugar metabolism, contribute to weight gain.

Live in harmony with the biological clock. Lack of sleep, activity, activities at night changes the condition of the intestinal flora for the worse. Accordingly, in order to improve the functioning of the intestines, it is necessary to stop the habit of staying awake at night and going to bed earlier, the specialist emphasized.
