The problems that have arisen in the functioning of the cardiovascular system due to the increased level of cholesterol can be signaled by scallion-like strips on the nails. Experts representing the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) warn about this.
“There are on the nails, dark strips resembling a rolling pin are called splinter hemorrhages. Their appearance may indicate the presence of serious health problems,” experts note.
Experts state that such stripes are one of the signs of a high level of cholesterol in the blood. Excesses of this substance, which fills vessels and arteries, can provoke their blocking, disrupting the blood supply to tissues and organs, including the heart and brain. The consequences of this process can be the most dramatic, and for a long time a person may not feel the dangerous accumulation of excess cholesterol.
Stripes on the nails are evidence of a poor condition of the vascular tissue, which is prone to damage. As a result, bleeding occurs (under the nail), which causes the appearance of characteristic marks.
If you notice such stripes on the nails, you should contact a therapist and check the level of cholesterol in the body (this allows you to do a blood test). It is especially important to be examined if a person also occasionally experiences heart failure.
