Researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, have found out which activities help reduce the risk of age-related memory loss. This is about greater social activity and the use of mobile devices.
According to the scientists, they managed to find out that mentally stimulating activities, such as using a computer, participating in social activities, are associated with a lower risk or delay of age-related memory loss.
It is noted that cognitive impairment is not a sign of dementia, such people have milder symptoms. They are able to perform complex tasks or have difficulty understanding read information, while people with dementia need help from outside.
The scientists involved 2,000 people in the experiment. At the beginning of the study, participants filled out a questionnaire about how often they participated in five types of mental activity in the middle age of 50 to 65 years, in the later one – from 66 years and older.
