Sudden nighttime awakenings may indicate liver problems

Sleep disturbances are sometimes associated with fatty liver disease.
According to data, the majority of patients with chronically unhealthy livers (up to 80 percent) experience sleep disturbances. In particular, they complain of insomnia, poor-quality sleep, daytime sleepiness, and restless legs syndrome.
British doctor Brian Lunn said in an interview that sudden awakenings at a certain time of the night may indicate liver problems.
For those who are familiar with such a phenomenon as waking up in the middle of the night, Dr. Lunn recommended recording the exact time this happens.
If sleep is interrupted in the first half of the night, it is possible that the liver suffers from excess fat.
“Liver problems are a common cause of awakening between 1 and 4 a.m. This may be due to inflammation of the liver or fatty liver disease, also known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,” the doctor informed.
The specialist explained that between 1 and 3 am, the liver is most active in cleansing the blood of toxins.
Being oversaturated with fat, the organ does not cope with this function properly, and the level of unwanted components in the blood increases. When the brain receives an alarm signal from here, a sudden awakening occurs.
