Suppresses cancer: scientists have proven the effectiveness of three plants

Scientists from the Department of Pharmacy at the National University of Singapore have identified five plants that have anticancer properties during a three-year study.

Three species were particularly effective in suppressing tumor growth.

The selection of plants for the study was determined by the fact that they are most often used as traditional medicines for the treatment of cancer in Southeast Asian countries.

According to the results of the scientists, such plants include:

– bandicoot berry (Leea Indica);

– belalai gajja (Clinacanthus Nutans);

– vampi (Clausena lansium);

– curly silk cup (Strobilanthes crispus);

– vernonia (Vernonia amygdalina);

– chaste tree (Vitex trifolia).

The study used extracts of fresh, healthy and mature plant leaves. Scientists studied their effects on cancer cells of the breast, ovaries, uterus, cervix, liver and colon, as well as leukemia.

According to the researchers, three types of plants have pronounced anticancer activity: bandicoot berry, vernonia and chaste tree. They inhibited the growth of all 7 cancer sites.

As emphasized by Koh Hwi Ling, the lead author of the study, the results obtained represent new scientific data on the use of plants in cancer treatment, which provides opportunities for the development of new therapeutic agents.
