Specialist advises not to take a shower for a long time and not to subject the skin of the body and head to too thorough cleansing.
Taking a shower is one of the simple pleasures in life: it not only cleans, but also calms. However, there is a right and wrong way to take a shower, and the latter can be very harmful to health, British pharmacist Hussain Abdeh said in an interview with Express.
A common mistake, according to the expert, is taking too long a shower with hot water.
“A long hot shower can harm the health of your skin,” the specialist states.
According to him, hot water softens the oils that create a natural layer on the skin. In part, this improves the cleansing of the skin, its pores from sweat and dirt – however, if you wash with hot water for too long, the skin also begins to lose the necessary moisture and the components that are needed to help it stay hydrated and soft. As a result, dryness, itching, and irritation occur – this, in turn, can cause the appearance of other problems, as it increases the risk of skin damage, which serves as a gateway for the penetration of infections.
What does the expert recommend?< /strong>
– You should limit the time of taking a shower to about 10 minutes and keep the water as cool as possible, although not cold.
Hussein Abdeh referred to research that showed that the habit of using for washing, cool water can strengthen the immune system, acting on the body as a hardening agent.
Also, he called washing hair too often (especially daily) a common mistake. The expert said that daily use of shampoo can do more harm than good – it deprives the hair of natural oils that make it strong and elastic, and also contributes to dryness and flaking of the scalp, and with it, the spread of dandruff.
