Japanese scientists have found that a warm bath helps reduce the risk of diseases.
With the help of daily bathing, you can prolong a healthy life, as evidenced by the results of three-year observations conducted by specialists from Tokyo City University. The object of scientific attention was 14 thousand people aged 65 and over. One of the conclusions made by the researchers concerned taking a warm bath. It turned out that this habit was associated with longer periods of well-being in older people.
“Those who took a bath every day had a 29% lower risk of needing health care than those who bathed less than twice a week.”
According to another study involving subjects aged 40-50, taking a warm bath reduces the susceptibility to such dangerous conditions as stroke or myocardial infarction.
Scientists noted that heat dilates blood vessels, which has a positive effect on blood circulation, helps activate metabolism, prevent fatigue, reduce the load on the heart, and normalize blood pressure. Also, under the influence of heat, the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated and the body relaxes. All these processes contribute to the activity of immune cells – as a result, the body's immunity becomes more resistant to pathogens and infections.
“The most useful way to take a bath is to bathe in water at a temperature of 40°C for 10 minutes, if the body is immersed in water up to the shoulders. If you immerse yourself in water only halfway, then the recommended procedure time increases to 20 minutes,” the professor said.
Experts emphasize that bathing should not be longer. Excessive heat exposure to the body is undesirable and potentially harmful.
In addition, immersion in a bath should not create a very sharp temperature drop for the body, as this negatively affects the condition of the heart and blood vessels.
