To reduce the risk of stroke, scientists recommend reducing the amount of salt in the diet.
According to Harvard Medical School, high blood pressure is a very significant factor in stroke. Therefore, to prevent stroke, you should follow measures that improve the mechanisms of natural control of blood pressure or even lower it.
“To achieve this, you may need to reduce the amount of salt in your diet – ideally to no more than 1500 milligrams every day, about half a teaspoon,” experts say.
Harvard doctors also named other natural ways to reduce the risk of stroke, which give better results in this way.
- Increase the amount of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats in the diet, while avoiding foods that contain a lot of saturated fats.
- Eat four to five portions of vegetables and fruits every day, one portion of fish two to three times a week and several daily servings of whole grains, as well as low-fat dairy products.
- Move more, exercise at least 30 minutes every day.
- Quit smoking, if you have a bad habit.
- Find ways to maintain social contact – reducing contact with friends, family or other people outside the home is also associated with an increased risk of stroke.
