People with dementia may lose the ability to perform familiar tasks easily. Already in the early stages, patients begin to get confused about the order of performing actions in order to achieve the usual result. For example, they may have difficulties when simply cooking pasta.
The fact that the brain is unhealthy is indicated by problems with memory and thinking. At the same time, the decline in cognitive functions can be a consequence of stress or a typical symptom accompanying aging. But, if a person's condition deteriorates faster than due to age changes, it is a case of dementia. Then unusual behavior appears.
“It's like trying to cook pasta on the stove before pouring water into the pan,” British doctor Radha Modgil explained the alarming symptom of dementia. She is a GP in the UK's NHS.
So, she says, if you or a loved one find yourself burning pasta in a pan without water, you should see a doctor. Problems can arise in simply finding movies to watch and even when changing clothes. The specialist noted that with dementia, a noticeable decrease in brain functions is observed over several months, not years.
Dr. Modgil in the conversation called making wrong decisions as other alarming symptoms. In general, wrong decisions, such as buying something useless, are a part of everyone's life. But if we talk about dementia, then the patient is able to make many mistakes in a short period of time. This is due to the fact that a person can process information correctly, as before.
You should also sound the alarm if a person's personality has changed in just a few months. Dementia sometimes causes hallucinations, smells and sounds that are not there, the doctor emphasized.
