Studies have shown that Graying of hair can be strongly influenced by nutritional deficiencies, in particular, lack of vitamin B12.
Referring to data from the NHS, it is reported that “vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the most common causes of premature graying of hair.”
Scientists state that this B vitamin supports the health of the nervous system and helps the body produce red blood cells (erythrocytes). In case of its deficiency, the production of erythrocytes is disturbed: the cells become abnormally large and cannot function properly.
“Adults aged 19 to 64 years need about 1.5 mcg of vitamin B12 per day.”
In addition to premature graying, there are several other symptoms that signal a lack of this substance.
- Since vitamin B12 deficiency can affect nerve tissues, there is a tendency to paresthesia – a person feels prickles in the skin from needles.
- Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to irritability, depression and decreased mental abilities such as memory and judgment.
Experts remind that the main sources of vitamin there is meat, fish, eggs, cheese and dairy products.
