The cereal that causes diabetes is named
Type 2 diabetes is often associated with a sedentary lifestyle, excess weight and improper diet. According to NHS England, type 2 diabetes can be prevented by cutting down on fruit, vegetables and some starchy foods such as pasta. The amount of sugar, fat and salt should also be minimal.
A new study has shown that the risk of developing this disease is associated with regular consumption of one cereal popular in South Asia – white rice. The study lasted 10 years, more than 1.3 million people from 21 countries managed to take part in it. During the study, diabetes developed in 6,129 subjects.
Participants were asked to record how much white rice they ate. It turned out that type 2 diabetes prevailed in South Asians, who consume a lot of white rice – on average, 630 g per day, while in Singapore, where this cereal is not so popular, the number of patients was minimal. On average, the study participants consumed 128 g of white rice per day.
Based on these data, scientists recommend reducing the consumption of white rice and replacing it with other cereals and legumes. In addition, instead of rice, you can eat more red meat, fiber and dairy products.
