According to the immunologist, the plaque covering the tongue can have different shades depending on the diseases that occur in the body.

In the interview with the doctor, a reminder was sounded that the coating of the tongue begins to change in its color when diseases of the gastrointestinal tract develop.

“In diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the tongue can be of different colors. It can be dense white, it can also be yellow, even brown, black, depending on the cause,” the doctor said.

In addition, the yellow tint of the plaque can mean problems with the liver or gall bladder. .

In turn, if the tongue turns black, this suggests a fungal infection – for example, candidiasis of the esophagus or stomach, which can occur under the conditions of taking antibiotics.

Also, the doctor noted, plaque begins to cover the tongue and the back wall of the pharynx in viral diseases, such as ARVI.

“When a sore throat occurs, a white plaque that is not erased moves from the tonsils to the tongue,” the specialist informed.
