Type 2 diabetes is a disease which is characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, when the level of glucose in the blood is too high.
The peculiarity of the disease is that it often develops without symptoms. However, scientists believe that some conditions of the body can be signs of diabetes.
So, a high blood sugar level is indicated by Charcot foot – this is a deformation of the bones, joints and skin of the feet caused by diabetic neuropathy. It usually occurs as a result of untreated or late-diagnosed diabetes.
According to the World Diabetes Association, the symptoms of Charcot foot include: swelling and redness of the foot or ankle, elevated temperature of the legs, severe pain, deformation of the foot, loss of sensation.
If a person has any of these symptoms, it is necessary to consult a doctor and undergo tests, experts note. They also reminded that two key points should be taken into account when controlling blood sugar – a special diet and physical exercises.
