Atherosclerosis is characterized by pathological changes in blood vessels, the appearance of plaques and deterioration of blood flow – its early symptoms can be noticed at the age of about 40 years.

The development of atherosclerosis is facilitated by an increase in the level of cholesterol – a fatty substance that forms plaque on the inner walls of blood arteries. In the case of its excess, plaques are formed that narrow the cavities of arteries and impair blood conductivity. At the same time, the vascular tissue loses its elasticity, hardens, stops stretching, due to which it becomes prone to damage under blood pressure.

Thus, atherosclerosis is closely related to the development of hypertension and heart attacks, the doctor recalled in an interview .

According to the doctor, the accumulation of cholesterol and the adverse vascular changes caused by it can go unrecognized for a long time. Or the early signs of atherosclerosis that occur at this stage are not given due attention, they do not seem to be something serious to people.
