Sweeteners added to foods have both harmful and useful properties. The endocrinologist reported that, in general, any chemical substance that enters the body in large doses can change its properties.
“Stevia and sucralose are harmless. They are not stated in any of the compromising studies. Everything else is discussed in terms of harm. They talk about a long-term accumulative effect at the cellular level. The negative effect depends on the chemical formula. For example, xylitol and sorbitol are atomic alcohols that are not characteristic of the human body,” says the doctor.
She noted that with long-term use, sweeteners cause cell swelling. According to the specialist, the causes of cancer are still unknown. There are many theories, but none of them has yet been confirmed.
