The doctor expressed a cautionary opinion that ignoring a hat in cold autumn weather threatens the development of a neurological disease in which the occipital nerve is affected.

The doctor said in an interview that refusing to wear a hat in the cold is dangerous because a person can develop neuropathy of the large occipital nerve. This pathology occurs due to excessive muscle tension, which react to cooling with uncontrolled spasms.

As a result, there is shame, irritation, pinching of the nerves of the head, and the development of such neuropathy can be accompanied by extremely unpleasant, painful symptoms.

Neuropathy of the large occipital nerve is a serious neurological disease. It manifests itself as a debilitating shooting pain in the back of the head that radiates to the behind the ear, parietal, and temporal regions, the doctor informed.

The doctor added: if the head is often exposed to cooling, it can contribute to the emergence of chronic pains associated with with excessive tension of the aponeurosis – this is the so-called tendon helmet between the occipital and frontal muscles.
