Cancer is a terrifying prospect. However, it's becoming increasingly clear that you can change your risk of developing a potentially fatal disease. According to Dr. Nighat Arif, there is a lot of controversy about the role of diet in influencing risk.
There are people who do believe that certain foods cause an inflammatory response.
As Dr. Nighat explained, wherever you experience inflammation, cellular changes occur, and wherever you have cellular changes, the risk of cancer increases.
She continued:
“We know that alcohol damages your liver cells, which is a risk factor for cancer.”
You should also be wary of fatty foods and foods that are “rich in E numbers,” according to Dr. Naigat. She warned that foods high in sugar and salt can also lead to harmful changes in the gut.
“We also know that if we have burnt food, this is associated with an increased risk.” .
As she explained, too much burnt toast or red meat puts you at “high risk” of bowel cancer. However, public health authorities disagree about the link between burnt food and cancer.
The fear of eating burnt food is primarily linked to 'acrylamide', a chemical that which is released in starchy foods such as bread and potatoes when they are cooked at high temperatures for a long time.
