The doctor named a common mistake when using honey

According to a nutritionist doctor, people make the mistake of perceiving honey as a healthy substitute for sugar.

When someone starts eating honey by the spoonful, thinking that it benefits their body, they are making a common mistake.

The doctor said that honey cannot be a sugar substitute, because it is mostly sugar itself: about 82 percent of it consists of simple carbohydrates, glucose, fructose.

In addition, honey has a high GI (glycemic index), which means its ability to seriously raise glucose levels in the blood.

“The consumption of honey should be limited, perceiving it rather as a medicine, and not as a dessert. The daily norm is two to three teaspoons,” the doctor shared her recommendation.

In order to slow down the rise in blood glucose levels after consuming honey, the nutritionist advised using it together with a protein product, for example, cheese.
