The habit of abusing carbohydrate products threatens the appearance serious problems with the liver, the development of a fatty disease of the organ.
A diet rich in carbohydrates (primarily, refined – in the form of sweets, flour products, white rice) is closely related to the development of NAFLD, a non-alcoholic fatty disease in a person liver.
The expert explained that the assimilation of carbohydrates increases the level of sugar in the blood and the production of the sugar-distributing hormone insulin occurs in response. Frequent or excessive eating of carbohydrates contributes to the fact that body cells become less and less sensitive to this hormone. Such insulin resistance contributes to fatty liver and NAFLD.
“Insulin resistance can lead to increased triglyceride levels and increased uptake of fatty acids by the liver, which can ultimately lead to NAFLD,” noted Deepa Shah.
The doctor added that people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes should also have their liver checked. Obesity of this organ in diabetics is a common problem.
