Dr Ellie Cannon has named a popular food loved by thousands of Britons that could increase the risk of bowel cancer. The TV doctor also advised you on what you should eat to keep your gut healthy.
Colon cancer describes cancer that starts in the large intestine. Depending on the location, it is also called rectal or colon cancer. However, certain foods can increase your risk.
Dr Ellie explained how switching to a “half-time” vegetarian diet can benefit your gut and reduce your risk of cancer. She warned that red and processed meat can increase the risk of colon cancer.
“If you cut down on meat, you cut down on saturated fat in the first place,” she explained.

Saturated fats can raise the level of “bad” LDL cholesterol, which in turn increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. But this is not the only advantage of giving up meat, which the doctor shared.
“People who consume a lot of red and processed meat are more prone to intestinal diseases, especially intestinal cancer. But to get to that level, you have to be really extreme.”
Dr. Alley is not the only expert to link red and processed meat to serious health problems. A number of studies have shown that eating such foods can increase the risk of cancer.
Processed meat describes meat that has been altered to preserve or flavor it, from salting to smoking. Sausages, bacon and ham fall into this category.
Dr Ellie said:
“We know that replacing some of these red meat options with plant-based alternatives is good for your health. I am our intestine”.
