According to an expert, limiting the number of trips to the toilet can help us keep our health in good condition. The GP emphasized the importance of resisting the urge to urinate during the night to help train the bladder.
Failure to do this can have serious health consequences.
The doctor advised patients to refrain from using the toilet for more than three or four times during the day.
“Ideally, you should not get up at night,” explained the expert. “The normal time between trips to the toilet is every three to four hours during the day.”
The reason for moderation comes down to brain signals, because by succumbing to the urge to pee too early, the brain only sends signals more often. For those who feel an overwhelming need to urinate before going out or in the middle of the night, the doctor advises bladder training.
“We know that as your bladder steadily fills, the intensity of the feeling of needing to urinate is growing more and more. This feeling gradually builds until we believe we are about to overflow.”
By yielding once the wave of intensity reaches its peak, the body cannot resist, which can lead to more frequent urges throughout the night.
