Regular consumption of sweet sodas drinks and fast food can lead not only to weight gain, but also to more serious health consequences. An endocrinologist, nutritionist told about them.
Dangerousness of sweet drinks
The specialist noted that sweet carbonated drinks contain a huge amount of sugar, which is very harmful. Firstly, they are high in calories, and secondly, regular consumption of foods with a high glycemic load increases the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic inflammation.
In connection with with this, the nutritionist advises to monitor the amount of used gas per day. According to her, if drinking plain water is “boring”, you can add a slice of lemon, mint, or berries to it. “Also, berry puree, dried fruit compote without added sugar are ideal for replacement. Herbal teas, green and black, quench thirst well,” the doctor noted.
The harm of fast food
Speaking of fast food, the nutritionist first of all mentioned chips. According to her, the hidden enemy of this product is salt, which is contained in large quantities.
In addition, any fast food contains various flavor enhancers, as a result of which the taste buds get used to salty food, and ordinary healthy food seems unsalted and bland to a person. The doctor added that the craving for salty food is caused by the habit of snacking and replacing a full meal with fast food.
“As a healthy snack, sliced vegetables are ideal, for example, carrots and celery with a handful of nuts, or just a handful of nuts, any that you like. Dried vegetables, fruits or a portion of berries are also suitable for snacks,” the doctor advised.
Reasons for cravings for soda and junk food
The inability to give up sweet soda and fast food may be associated with unmet physical and psychological needs, the doctor believes. According to her, the habit of constantly consuming junk food drowns out a person’s true desires, but does not solve the original problem.
