But there are many mistakes about all this, the gastroenterologist said.
The expert commented on the well-known opinion about the harmfulness of the combination of meat and potatoes or pasta. According to him, some of the danger of such dishes is related to their high calorie content. However, they do not cause fermentation or putrefactive processes in the digestive tract, as you can hear: such an idea is a mistake, says a gastroenterologist.
“Stories about foods that cause fermentation or putrefaction in the stomach are nonsense: in it such an acidic environment that fermentation and decay are impossible here. Rotting of proteins and fermentation of carbohydrates can only occur in severe atrophic gastritis, when the production of acid is greatly reduced,” the doctor shared his opinion.
Also, the specialist spoke about how wrong it is to combine cucumbers with tomatoes. The gastroenterologist called the statement about the lack of enzymes to break down two foods eaten together as another mistake. In addition, the doctor recognized as a myth the rule that tomatoes cannot be eaten with dishes made from potatoes and other carbohydrate products.
“Our body produces enzymes to break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates at the same time. The principles of separate feeding do not correspond to reality. They were invented by people who do not know the physiology of digestion,” the expert summarized.
