About 10% of the world's population grind their teeth at night. This habit, known as bruxism, is often related to stress or anxiety and can eventually lead to serious problems.
Sleep expert Nerina Ramlahan said that people who grind their teeth at night are usually are perfectionists.
They tend to have difficulty establishing and maintaining personal boundaries at work and at home. It is difficult for them to say “No”, they do not know how to ask for help and share their anxieties.
Bruxism leads to wear of tooth enamel, as a result of which they become weak and can break. Also, due to this, a person has a headache in the morning, stiffness in the jaw joint, sleep disturbances.
To get rid of this habit, Ramlakhan advises to relieve stress in every way: talk about your feelings and find support from friends or a partner, write down your thoughts and fears before sleep, as well as include yoga in your life and master relaxation techniques.
