Sleepingsleep, otherwise known as parasomnia, is an incomplete transition between deep, slow sleep and wakefulness. It has a pronounced heredity, but does not threaten health. Sleepwalking is dangerous in everyday life if a person trips or hits.
In fact, sleepwalking is most common in children aged 5-7 years, episodes become less frequent with age and can stop altogether in most patients. The doctor noted that, despite the availability of drugs for sleepwalking in medicine, they are used extremely rarely, moreover, these drugs have pronounced side effects.
The causes of sleepwalking are often lack of sleep, stress, increased workload, infectious diseases , flowing with high body temperature. Also, sleepwalking can be triggered by everyday conditions, for example when it is too hot during sleep.
“The doctor's task in such a situation is only to make sure that there is no neurological disease hiding behind sleepwalking, such as epilepsy, and to talk about the need for safe bedroom arrangements ( the absence of sharp corners, sharp objects, if necessary, special locks on windows and doors), as well as factors that provoke a person to avoid them,” the doctor explained.
