The dose of alcohol that can cause obesity is determined

Korean doctors at the National Medical Center in Seoul determined the dose alcohol, which can cause the development of metabolic syndrome and obesity. According to their calculations, even a very small daily portion, equivalent to only seven grams of ethanol, leads to obesity.

Scientists state that regular consumption of this amount of alcohol immediately increases the risk of obesity in men by ten percent. If the consumed dose of alcohol is more significant, then the probability of metabolic syndrome – a complex of abnormalities that include, in addition to obesity, hypertension, increased blood sugar and cholesterol levels, which significantly increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus 2- th type.

The conclusions of the researchers are based on the results of data analysis of almost 27 million people aged 20 and over.

It should be noted that the dangerous dose of alcohol in terms of obesity, determined by Korean experts, is half regular portion (14 grams of ethanol). That is, it is half of a small glass of wine of 118 milliliters or a bottle of beer with a volume of 355 milliliters.

It is estimated that when men drink alcohol in double the amount compared to the dose of 7 grams of pure alcohol indicated by scientists, their risk of obesity increases from 22 to 25 percent. Approximately the same correlation was observed among women, their numbers are only slightly lower.
