The effects of a concussion can persist for many years

Even if a person has received a mild concussion degree, the consequences can haunt him for many years. New Zealand scientists from the University of Waikato came to this conclusion.

151 volunteers took part in the study. Each of the subjects suffered a mild concussion. Scientists asked people to fill out a questionnaire.

In the questionnaire, it was necessary to indicate the symptoms that were present at the time of the injury, as well as eight years after the incident. Then the specialists analyzed all the answers received.

As it turned out, even after such a long time, a third of the volunteers suffered from post-traumatic or anxiety disorder, post-concussion syndrome and had some difficulties in performing their professional duties.

At the same time, this symptom occurred twice as often in women than in men, and especially in those who suffered several concussions.
