Many people prefer to train on an empty stomach, as in this case exercises are supposedly more effective. This popular opinion was refuted by a candidate of medical sciences, an endocrinologist.
The doctor explained that people who train on an empty stomach “use” not glycogen as energy, but protein, so weight loss is achieved by burning muscle tissue.< /p>
In such cases, “the most important muscle of the body” – the heart, is especially damaged, as it is under a heavy load, the doctor added.
According to her, only stretching should be done on an empty stomach and breathing exercises. And it is better to carry out serious training only one and a half to two hours after breakfast. The endocrinologist added that breakfast can be light, but must contain protein.
