One of the external symptoms of a dangerously high level of cholesterol in the body there may be the formation of lipomas (fat deposits).
Cholesterol, which is a fatty, waxy substance, is an extremely important component that ensures the normal functioning of the body. Thanks to it, cell membranes show resistance to temperature effects, in addition, cholesterol is involved in the processes of synthesis of vitamin D, the production of sex hormones.
The content of cholesterol in the body is determined by two factors: its level is partly filled due to the work of the liver, partly – as a result of the food consumed by a person. If the cholesterol level reaches dangerously high levels, it threatens to clog the blood arteries, which contributes to the development of heart attacks and strokes.
The external symptoms of a dangerously high cholesterol level were named by doctors.
“At a very high level cholesterol in the body can form lipomas under the skin, and light gray circles appear on the iris of the eyes,” experts said.
Another external sign of high cholesterol is xanthelasma – small fat lumps that appear on eyelids or in the corners of the eyes.
Medical experts emphasize that the most accurate method of determining a dangerously high cholesterol level is a blood test, which can only be performed by a doctor. They also reminded that the problem of high cholesterol can be inherited.
