When it comes to healthy eating, few people think about eating an extra piece of cheese. However, scientists have found that some of its types can prevent the development of the most dangerous diseases and increase life expectancy.
Researchers recommend paying special attention to aged cheeses, including cheddar, brie and parmesan. It turns out that they can even protect against liver cancer.
Researchers from Texas A&M University found that these three cheeses contain a substance called spermidine, which blocks the reproduction of damaged liver cells. So, potentially, cheddar, brie and parmesan can help prevent liver fibrosis, which often turns into a malignant tumor.
During the study, it was found that when using this supplement, the lifespan of mice increased by as much as 25%. After these results, a survey was conducted of 800 long-lived Italians who talked about their diet.
It turned out that those who included aged cheeses in it had lower blood pressure and the risk of heart problems decreased by 40%.
Spermidine is also found in sorghum, corn, soybeans and whole grains, which are traditionally considered healthier. However, scientists also noted the importance of moderate consumption of cheese.
It was established that conjugated linoleic acid, which is rich in this product, prevents the development of atherosclerosis, reduces inflammation in the body and strengthens immunity.
In addition, it turned out that, contrary to popular opinion, those people who eat a lot of cheese do not suffer from high cholesterol.
