In particular, according to a study published in the journal Natural Medicine Journal, walnuts fall into this category of products. According to the scientists, this is one of the key conclusions of the research, during which the eating habits of 7,216 people were studied. One portion was considered 28 grams of the product. During the 4.8 years of the study, 323 cases of death of volunteers were recorded, of which 81 cases were from cardiovascular diseases and 130 cases from cancer.
It turned out that eating nuts was associated with a significant reduction in risk total mortality. Compared to those who did not eat them at all, those who consumed more than three servings of nuts per week (32% of the cohort) were 39% less likely to die early.
“A similar protective effect was observed for death from cardiovascular – vascular diseases and cancer,” the authors of the study write.
Participants who follow a Mediterranean diet that includes more than three servings of nuts per week also had the lowest risk of premature death. According to scientists, the results of this study proved the positive effect of eating nuts on longevity.
