Japanese scientists from the University Tsukuba have developed a special paint, with the help of which specialists get the opportunity to trace the process of cholesterol plaque formation in blood vessels and get more information about the causes of the appearance of these plaques. According to the co-author of the study Mitito Hamad, thanks to the new development, doctors will be able to “exactly monitor how many plaques are present in blood vessels and how fast they grow.” In addition, the know-how allows you to quickly check how effectively the drugs prescribed to patients to clean blood vessels from cholesterol work.

According to the WHO, the formation of plaques begins with the accumulation of cholesterol on the walls of blood vessels, which after some time begins become thicker. At the same time, they have an increase in calcium concentration and loss of elasticity. Against the background of these violations, atherosclerosis and related diseases of the heart and blood vessels develop.

Japanese researchers noted that their work confirmed: smoking, an unhealthy diet with a large amount of fats, synthetic dyes, and the lack of regular exercise.
