The main mistakes when brewing coffee are named

Most people cannot start their day without a cup of coffee. In fact, according to the National Coffee Association (NCA), the caffeinated beverage is growing in popularity from country to country. However, many people often make mistakes when cooking it, which can spoil the taste and “kill” the useful properties.

First of all, grains that are not fresh enough are often bought. As experts explained, the time between coffee roasting and brewing is of crucial importance for the taste of the drink. “The shorter this time, the richer the aroma and taste,” said Peet's Senior Beverage Research and Development Manager Patrick Mayne. In order not to make a mistake, the expert advises to pay attention to the date of roasting.

In addition, many grind grains long before brewing. According to barista Shabira Noruddin, after grinding, the grains start degassing even faster and they remain fresh for a maximum of 30 minutes. Therefore, it is best to brew coffee immediately after grinding the beans.

Another common mistake is not to wash the coffee filter before using it. “Pass a cup of hot water through the filter before brewing, and the coffee will taste much cleaner. If you use brown filters, it is especially important to pre-wash them, as they tend to have a cardboard aroma that can spoil even the most refined taste of the beans, experts warned.

In addition, many brew coffee incorrectly. Depending on the method of preparation, the nature of the drink will be different. For example, coffee prepared in a French press will be strong and sour, while the AeroPress will give a rich and rich taste.

Another common mistake is not hot enough water. In fact, this is the most common drawback of home coffee makers. Their cheap versions heat the water to a maximum of 90 degrees, but the barista advises brewing coffee at a temperature of 97 degrees. “This is about 30 seconds after boiling,” Noruddin explained.

As for the French press, it is better to brew coffee in this way for 3-4 minutes, after which it should be poured into a cup. If you leave the coffee to brew for the entire time of breakfast, the drink will become bitter.
