The absolute majority of Ukrainian citizens are proud of their citizenship and intend to build their future life in the country.
This was announced at a press conference dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine, where the results of a joint survey by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation were presented ยป named after Ilko Kucheriv and the Razumkov Center.
During the event, Scientific Director of the Foundation, Oleksiy Garan, said that 88% of Ukrainians are proud of their citizenship. This indicator remains consistently high for the third year in a row: 90.5% in 2022, 88.5% in 2023, and 88% in 2024. These are the highest indicators in the entire history of sociological observations. Garan noted that pride for one's citizenship is manifested among representatives of all age groups.
The study also showed that 86% of respondents want to build their future in Ukraine, and 59% of them have an unequivocal intention to stay in the country. This desire prevails among all age groups, and with age this intention becomes even stronger: among young people – 74%, among people aged 30-39 – 81%, 40-49 years – 87%, 50-59 years – 90%, and among the oldest age group – 93%.
Olexii Garan emphasized that these results testify to the inconsistency of conversations about the mass desire of Ukrainians to go abroad. He also noted that if a referendum on Ukraine's independence was held today, 85% of citizens would support independence.
At the same time, according to Harany, the number of positive assessments of the direction of development in Ukraine has decreased: currently 40% of Ukrainians believe that the country is moving in the right direction (it was 49% in 2023), while 37% believe that the direction is wrong. Men more often than women assess the development of events positively, while women are more uncertain.
Among the feelings about the future of Ukraine, the most common are hope (61%), anxiety (40%) and optimism (33.5%).
The survey was conducted from August 8 to 15, 2024 by the method of personal interviews in different regions of Ukraine. 2017 respondents over the age of 18 were interviewed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%, but additional systematic deviations are possible due to the consequences of Russian aggression.
