The BMJ journal has published data obtained in a new study by scientists from the University of Oxford (Great Britain). Experts have found that the best way to lose weight is the so-called “liquid diet” – a system of eating low-calorie liquid dishes, such as soups.
The experiment of the Oxford researchers involved 278 obese patients who were supposed to follow a liquid diet for eight weeks. At the same time, the first four participants were supposed to follow an extremely modest diet – up to 810 kcal per day. But in the next four weeks, other products were included in their diet.
The result of the experiment was as follows. Participants who disciplinedly followed a liquid diet lost an average of 10.7 kg. In the control group, where people lost weight due to a healthy balanced diet, they lost 3.1 kg.
Thus, experts summarized, for tangible weight loss results, you should consume low-calorie soups and other liquids (broths, smoothies, cocktails). According to the lead author of the project, Professor Paul Eyvyard, in conditions of a liquid diet, it is important to concentrate your efforts on the first 12 weeks. The effect is worth it: people lose three times more excess weight. At the same time, judging by the researchers' data, the risk of heart problems and type 2 diabetes is also reduced.
