The most harmful fabrics for health: which materials should be avoided

Everyone knows that skin is the largest organ in the body, and yet we put it to serious tests every day. In addition to what we eat and what we put on our skin, we suffer from the clothes we wear, which are also made of harmful materials.

Polyester

This is one of the most popular synthetic fabrics. At the same time, it can be made in combination with natural fibers, for example, cotton. Polyester clothes change less and are stronger. However, it is difficult for the skin to breathe under clothes made of this material, and an increase in body temperature leads to the release of chemical components from the fabric. It can cause rashes, redness, itching, eczema and dermatitis. Therefore, it is better to avoid polyester in close-fitting clothing.

Viscose

It is made chemically from cellulose. The material is cheap, but harmful – both for the environment and human health. Viscose emits toxic substances that cause nausea, headache, vomiting or even insomnia. In addition, viscose decomposes naturally for a very long time, and it is rarely processed. By the way, cleaning and washing are also harmful to the environment, as chemicals are released during washing, which then enter the water.

Nylon

Nylon is most often used to make socks. , pantyhose, underwear and many other everyday clothes. This material is durable and inexpensive to manufacture, which makes it so popular. However, it is better not to put it on bare skin. Nylon clothes do not absorb sweat. In addition, constant humidity promotes the development of infections. And in the production process, the fabric is brightened or dyed with various chemicals that can cause allergic reactions on the skin.

Spandex, Lycra and Elastane

These fabrics are very good they stretch, so many tight clothes are made from them. For example, leggings, t-shirts, shapewear, bikinis, etc. Like other synthetic fabrics, they are made from chemicals such as polyurethane. Prolonged contact with such fabrics can cause skin irritation such as dermatitis.
