However, despite the apparent simplicity of preparing the dish, there are several unhealthy ways that can spoil it. Nutritionist Mackenzie Burgess told how to avoid the main mistake.
Although cereals contain a large number of various vitamins and minerals, the amount of protein in them is small, he noted. “According to the USDA, one bowl of cooked oatmeal made with water contains only 6 grams of protein. Our goal is about 15-20 grams of protein for breakfast,” the doctor said.
He explained that if you start the day with a large dose of protein, you can stay full for much longer. To increase the protein content of porridge, Burgess suggested adding a few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt, a spoonful of nut butter or protein powder.
Peanut butter will also add a bright flavor to the dish, and Greek yogurt will make it creamier, the nutritionist added.
