From olives to bacon, some of the foods you buy at your local grocery store aren't exactly secretive about their salt content. The reference consumption, highlighted in bright red on the package, draws attention to the amount of salt per serving. Still, frozen pizza might not cross your mind as a culprit food.
These treats are no different, according to a nutritionist, as they can also increase your risk of hypertension.
If you don't know, high blood pressure describes long-term blood pressure on the walls of arteries that is large enough to cause health problems, according to the Mayo Clinic.
These health effects can range from heart attacks to strokes, as the NHS explains. Worse still, hypertension affects around a third of British adults, and many are unaware of it – thanks to the very few symptoms associated with the condition.
While frozen pizza is the ultimate comfort for the lazy at night, your blood pressure may not thank you for opting for the oven-friendly option.
The doctor, who is a nutritionist and fitness specialist at JustCBD, said:
As a nutritionist, I discovered that a slice of frozen pizza contains up to 700 mg of sodium. This means that all that pizza is pumping a lot of sodium into your body. This leaves more than 2,000 mg of sodium in the systemic circulation.”
She explained that this can increase the risk of high blood pressure.
The reason why eating too much salt causes hypertension , is that it causes you to retain water.
Consuming too much salt increases the amount of water in your blood and also puts extra pressure on your arteries, which by definition raises your blood pressure.< /p>
